There will be 5 different designs for the coasters.
We are making coasters out of recycled corks. The corks are cut and glued together with different patterns to form a variety of designs. The coasters will have an extra board glued to the bottom to seal the corks and make them sturdier.
We use recycled corks as our primary material. They are easy to create with and we have access to the material already. We use Aleene’s Multi-Surface Adhesive to glue brown chipboard to the bottom of the coasters.
The corks are clamped in place for the initial cut using a hacksaw. Then they are marked with a pen to make sure the halves are symmetrical. The hacksaw is used again to cut the corks fully in half and a pocket knife is used for the final cut. An Exacto knife is used to cut the binders board which is placed on a cutting mat to avoid scratching the surface below. The cut edges of the binder's board are run over with a file to remove any ripped pieces. We already have access to all the required equipment and experience using those tools.
Corky Creations’ products are simple, handmade cork coasters. They are made of reused corks cut in half. They have chipboard on the bottom to help keep the coasters level. The adhesive we use to seal and assemble the coasters is strong and clear.
Our coasters have cork tops which prevent water from sealing the coasters to the bottom of cups. The chipboard at the bottom of the coasters seals the cut corks so they don’t leave behind dust or crumbs on tables. The adhesive we use to assemble the coasters is also clear so it doesn’t obstruct the designs.
